Bogota is a territorial entity of the highest level, with the same administrative status as the Colombian departments. It is the political, economic, administrative, industrial, artistic, cultural, and sports center of the country. The city is located in center of Colombia, on a high plateau known as the Bogota savannah, which is part of the Cundiboyacense Altiplano located in the Eastern Cordillera of the Andes. It is the third most elevated capital city in South America (after Quito and Sucre).
